Forrest Berman Hatch

I spent my formative years here on Cortes Island where I attended the Linnea farm school. I credit the island community, school and my family for providing me with a deep respect for the land and ocean around me. I grew up kayaking in the Salish sea and am now a certified kayak guide. Upon graduating high school, I wandered around the far side of the world which led me have experiences kayaking in Australia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Nepal. These days I spend my winters studying a variety of disciplines including Political Science, Geography, English Literature and Anthropology at the University of British Columbia. My interests are focused in sustainability, storytelling and the relationships between humanity, culture and the natural environment.

I grew up on Cortes Island in a small community. I have always had a deep love and appreciation for the sea and the natural world. I started working with Misty Isles three years ago, and now I am the owner and operator of the kayaking company! Although I am running the business side of things, I still love to guide. It is wonderful to provide the space for people to experience Cortes from the water. During the school year I am currently studying sociology and economics at Quest University in Squamish. In my spare time I love to spend time with my friends and family, do art and be in nature.

I am a Cortes resident and live on the edge of Desolation sound.I bring an appreciation of nature to my tours pointing out vast intertidal life, sea birds, and marine ecosystems of our coast. I began training as a kayak guide in 2008 in Clayoquot sound, now a cetified guide. I have been working with Misty Isles Adventures for many years.

My family and I moved to Cortes Island in 2002 and we have lived here since. I spent the majority of my childhood roaming the forests, shorelines and surrounding waters of Cortes. I have homeschooled for all of my learning years including high school. This allowed me to stay on Cortes year round and also go travelling with my family. It has also made me feel so much more connected with my community and the natural world. My interests include botany and local edible plants of BC.I also enjoy all outdoor activities, especially mountain biking, hiking, long-distance swimming, sailing and of course, kayaking. There is no place that gives me more joy than being out on the water. I got certified as a guide in May 2018, and have done my wilderness first aid and more qualifications since then.

Jolaine Boucher

I am from the East Coast of Canada but have found my home on Cortes Island in the Spring of 2016. I'm an outdoor enthusiast on land and water. I pushed my love for the outdoors to a new level when she completed the Adventure Sport Certificate from Thompson Rivers University in the Spring of 2017. This led me to raft guiding in BC's interior as well as kayaking the coast. Apart from joining me on the water, you'll find me hiking in the back country or on a yoga mat. As a yoga teacher and student of life, I strongly believe in the therapeutic values nature and the water have to offer.
